Aboard the Kraken
Set sail with EQ aboard the fantastic Wings of the Ocean adventure, a non-profit born of a dream, a will and a shared ideology: to take action in the face of the environmental threat that has been stalking us for far too long.
Wings of the ocean is a permanent crew of volunteers who are leading a team of eco-volunteers aboard a three-masted sailing ship to carry out clean-up initiatives. It involves a taste for adventure and a shared project united around a topic that they truly care about: the protection of our oceans and coastlines.
So what is the principle behind it?
"Eco-volunteering is collaborative and participatory action which involves giving up your free time to help with a project related to the preservation and enhancement of animal, plant, environmental and cultural diversity."
In addition to raising environmental awareness, Wings of the Ocean offers the general public the opportunity to actively take part in change by boarding the Kraken, their training ship. On the programme: sailing, scientific research and cleaning up the oceans.
Working in the field and seeing for yourself the footprint of the human race on nature seems to be the solution adopted by these eco-volunteer sailors. There's nothing better than diving among the corals or collecting tons of plastic waste to open your eyes to the sad reality of things.
They have revisited the voyage by bringing a whole new vision to it, the vision people need to have today: oceans like waste dumps where nature is struggling in the face of human stupidity. Nature is rarely the winner in this sort of game and the importance of non-profits such as Wings of the Ocean is making itself felt more than ever.
For 10 months now, this floating adventure has been drifting along where the ecological missions take it, to the rhythm of the winds and floating plastic.
