Celebrate those who maintain our balance

Bees ensure our balance and offer many benefits, including in cosmetics. On this World Bee Day, we would like to show you how bees can help us in our daily life by focusing on a natural substance: beeswax.

What is the original purpose of beeswax?

Beeswax is a substance produced by building bees and it will be used as a protective film for the honey and pollen they collect and as brood for the pupae.

When bees produce it, the wax is white. Once in contact with the pollen and propolis, the wax turns yellow. It is this colored wax that is mostly used in cosmetics.

Beeswax in cosmetics: what are the benefits?

Beeswax is composed of more than 300 natural substances that offer advantageous properties for cosmetics.

Rich in vitamin A and esters, it has a natural moisturizing power that softens, soothes and repairs the skin.  Adapted to all skin types, it deeply nourishes even the driest areas. For example, organic beeswax, is found in our Protective Cream with Cold Cream, ideal to moisturize and protect the skin on a daily basis.

Moreover it has repairing virtues, recognized for example to repare damaged lips and for the eczema. With its anti-inflammatory properties, beeswax soothes the wound while facilitating healing.

Its waterproof action prevents skin and lips drying by protecting them from the sun, wind and cold thanks to a natural waterproof film on the skin.

Nourishing, soothing, softening and healing, beeswax has many recognized benefits. It is notably found in our colored SPF50+ Sunscreen Sticks, our SPF30 Lip Balm and our 2 in 1 Combo Stick – SPF 50 Cream and SPF 50+ Stick, which leave a natural protective film on the skin against external aggressions.

Bees, our allies that must be protected

As pollinators, bees play a key role in the balance of nature. Unfortunately, this indispensable insect is an endangered species on the verge of extinction. Climate change, chemical substances, parasites, monocultures, Asian hornets, so many dangers that play a role in the bees overmortality.

For several years, an awareness of the crucial role of bees has been implemented, teaching us to protect and respect them. In order to benefit from their good works, it is essential to work in the respect of the bee and its environment.

How to harvest beeswax responsibly?

The harvesting of beeswax can be done by several methods:

  • Solar extraction: a relatively long process
  • Steam extraction: it consists in heating the frames in boiling water
  • Extraction by electric heating: mostly an industrial method

The beeswax is harvested at the end of the season, at the same time as the honey, in a responsible manner and without touching the combs where the young bees live. Thus, nests are not damaged and combs are simply recycled.

In addition, for a consumption even more responsible, use a French beeswax coming from sustainably managed environments and in the respect of the insect.

5 actions to adopt to save the bees

  • Planting flowers

Flowers and their pollen are essential for bees. By planting flowers in your garden, you encourage their activity. We advise you to choose melliferous plants which are the most adapted to make honey. Poppies, lavender, hollyhocks, dahlias, mint, lilies are good examples.

  • Sponsor a hive

Sponsoring a hive is very simple and allows you to help 4000 bees out of the 40000 living in a hive. In return you will get a jar of honey to thank you.

  • Consume organic products

We advise you to consume organic and local products to reduce your impact on the environment and thus protect the bees. Consumption goes through food as well as everyday products or cosmetics. At EQ we offer natural cosmetics certified organic, ideal to preserve bees and respect their environment.

  • Consume local honey

By consuming honey produced near you, you are supporting and helping beekeepers to keep their hives thriving.

  • Say no to pesticides

Bees are very sensitive to the use of pesticides, we recommend you to cultivate your garden in a natural way, nature will thank you.

Bees have many benefits and they are the key to our balance, so let's preserve them!
